Scarborough has been one of the most rapidly growing communities in the state of Maine. The Scarborough Public Schools are an integral component of community life providing students and the community with a broad range of educational, cultural, and social learning opportunities.

The educational programs of the Scarborough schools are student-centered offering students and parents both traditional and non-traditional (including looping and multi-grade) classroom placement options. Scarborough High School offers a rich and diverse curriculum which includes Advanced Placement courses, internships, and career and professional education programs at two regional  Career Technical Education (CTE) centers, Portland Arts and Technology High School (PATHS) and Westbrook Regional Vocational Center (WRVC). Scarborough High School recently completed a NEASC Accreditation Process. Scarborough proudly graduates 95% of our students in 4 years, 99% in 5 years, and approximately 90% of Scarborough seniors pursue post-secondary education after graduation.

Student academic and athletic successes are regularly recognized at the regional, state, and national levels.

Scarborough Public Schools are home to one of the most extensive student activities and athletic programs in Maine. Twenty-seven (27) varsity teams compete in 17 sports. Junior varsity and/or freshmen teams compete in 12 sports. Scarborough is a member of the Southwestern Maine Activities Association, an 18-member league of Class A schools in Cumberland and York counties.

Activities and clubs are wide-ranging and include the arts, National Honor Society, Academic Decathlon, school and community service, student government, Civil Rights Team, and student publications.

Beyond-the-classroom learning is offered in Adult Education classes offered through the Scarborough Adult Learning Center. Early college studies are offered to qualified high school students in conjunction with the University of Southern Maine. Scarborough High School partners with Virtual High School (VHS) to create online course options including a wide array of Advanced Placement courses.

Perhaps our school system's greatest asset is the exceptionally strong commitment of our teachers and staff. With parents as partners, the faculty strives to meet the individual needs of all students. Our staff also works diligently to ensure that the schools provide a safe and supportive learning environment for every student.

You are cordially invited to observe our programs and activities in Scarborough's schools.

Please contact the school Principal to make individual arrangements for your visit. If you wish to talk with the Superintendent or any of the Central Office staff, please contact us at your convenience by calling (207) 730-4100.
